Dear Lord in the battle that goes on
Through life
I ask, but a field that is fair,
A Chance which is equal with all in the
Strife
The courage to do and to dare
And if I should win, let it be by the code,
With my Fame and my own honor held
High,
But if I should lose let me, stand by the
Road
And cheer as the winners go by.
Lord, Teach me to conquer if conquer I
Can,
Having shown my worth in the fray;
But if I should lose let me lose like a man
And not like a coward I pray
Let me say, “There they ride on whom
Honors bestowed
Since they played the game better
Than I,”
But if I should lose let me, stand by the
Road
And cheer as the winners go by.
